Terms of Service
Last updated: November 1, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Givehold LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("Givehold", "we", "us"), for using the Givehold websites and app (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Givehold.
1. Who can use Givehold
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you're under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you need a parent or guardian's permission, and only an adult can subscribe or pay for Givehold. Givehold is offered for use in the United States; prices and charges are in US dollars. If you use it from somewhere else, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for following the laws that apply there. You may not use Givehold where US law forbids it, for example if you're in a country under a US embargo or on a US government list of restricted persons. You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us and for keeping your account details up to date.
2. Your account
- An account is for one person. Keep your password private, use a strong one, and don't share your sign-in with others: everyone in a household can have their own account and share one budget. You're responsible for activity on your account.
- You need a working email address. New accounts can be used right away, but if the email isn't verified, access may be paused after a grace period (currently 7 days), and the account may be deleted (usually about 30 days after sign-up).
- Tell us right away if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- Emails from us: we email you about your account, its security and your subscription, such as sign-in codes, security notices, subscription confirmations and renewal reminders. These are part of the Service. We may also send occasional news about Givehold and offers; each of those has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing doesn't stop account emails.
3. Households
A household shares one budget. Anyone who joins a household can see and change its budget, and changes sync to everyone in it. Members see each other's usernames, but not their email addresses. Only invite people you trust, and only share your join code with them. Each household has an owner, who manages billing; one subscription covers every member, and only the person who subscribes is charged. If you leave a household or delete your account, the household's shared budget stays with its remaining members. If the owner deletes their account, ownership passes to the member who has belonged the longest, and a subscription the owner paid for ends when its paid period does.
4. Plans, billing and cancellation
- Basic is free for one person, with the features described in the app. We may change what Basic includes.
- Pro Household is a paid subscription, billed monthly or yearly at the price shown when you subscribe. One subscription covers every member of the household.
- Agreeing to automatic renewal: before you subscribe, the app shows your subscription's renewal terms (the price, how often it renews, any free trial, and how to cancel) and asks you to agree to them. We keep a record of what you agreed to, and after you subscribe we email you a confirmation with the same terms.
- Free trials and offers: if your subscription starts with a free trial or a promotional period (such as a welcome offer), you won't be charged until it ends, and we'll email you before a free trial ends. When it ends, your subscription continues at the price shown when you subscribed unless you cancel before then. A free trial is offered only on a household's first subscription.
- Founding Member pricing: the first 500 households to subscribe can subscribe yearly at the Founding Member price shown when they subscribe. That price stays the same for as long as the subscription stays active. If you cancel, or switch to a different plan, and later subscribe again, the price current at that time applies. Founding Member pricing belongs to the household's subscription and can't be moved to another household or subscription. A spot taken by a subscription that ends before any payment is made (for example, a free trial canceled before it ends) may be given to someone else. Once all spots are taken, new yearly subscriptions are billed at the regular yearly price.
- Automatic renewal: subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period, and your payment method is charged the price then in effect, until you cancel. About five weeks before a yearly subscription renews, we'll email you a reminder with the renewal date and amount; if you pay monthly, we'll remind you once a year that your subscription is active. If the price of your plan changes, we'll email you before the new price applies to your subscription, as the law requires, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
- Cancel anytime online, from Settings › Billing & Plan, in a few steps. You keep Pro features until the end of the period you've paid for, and then the household returns to Basic. Your budget data is kept.
- Refunds: payments are non-refundable, including for partly used billing periods, except where the law requires otherwise or as described in section 9. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us within 30 days of the charge.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. If a payment fails, Stripe tries again, and Pro features may be paused until it's resolved. If the payment can't be collected, the subscription ends and the household returns to Basic.
- Taxes: prices shown don't include sales tax. Where it applies, our payment processor (Stripe) calculates it from your billing address and adds it at checkout and to each renewal, at the rate in effect at that time.
- Beta and promotional access: during beta testing or a promotion, we may give a household Pro features at no charge until a date shown in the app. You won't be charged for that unless you subscribe; when it ends, the household returns to Basic unless someone subscribes. Features offered in beta may change or be removed.
5. Acceptable use
Please don't misuse Givehold. For example, don't:
- break the law or violate anyone's rights using the Service;
- try to access other people's accounts or households, or our systems, without permission;
- interfere with or overload the Service, or get around its limits, security or plan restrictions;
- use automated tools to create accounts or scrape the Service;
- copy, sell or resell the Service, reverse engineer it except where the law allows, or use it to build a competing product;
- upload malicious code, or content you don't have the right to share.
6. Your content
Your budget information, receipts and messages ("your content") belong to you. You give us permission to host, store, copy, process and display your content as needed to provide, protect and improve the Service, including through the service providers named in the Privacy Policy. This permission lasts as long as we hold your content, and it carries over to anyone who takes over the Service (see section 17). You can download a copy of your data, export your transactions, or delete your account using the tools in the app.
De-identified information. We may create information from your content and your use of the Service that is de-identified or aggregated, so that it can't reasonably identify you or your household, and use it to improve and develop Givehold (including its automated and AI features) and to publish general statistics, such as average spending by category. We don't sell it, and we don't try to re-identify anyone from it.
Receipt images and other uploads. Before you scan a receipt, save a receipt image or import a statement, check what's in it. Crop out or cover anything you don't want stored or shared, such as full card or account numbers, signatures, addresses, and other people or personal items in the background, and be aware of your surroundings when you take the photo. Saved receipt images are kept with the transaction and can be seen by everyone in your household. You're responsible for what you choose to include in the images and files you upload. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for the exposure of sensitive information that you included in an upload and didn't remove or cover first.
7. AI features and calculations
Receipt scanning, statement import, the AI budget helper and currency conversion use artificial intelligence or outside data and can make mistakes, such as misreading an amount or a date, picking the wrong category, or missing or doubling a transaction. Always review what they produce before you save it. You're responsible for the transactions and figures in your budget, including ones you saved from an AI suggestion. Giving amounts (such as a 10% tithe), balances, and other figures are calculated from the information you enter and are estimates provided for your planning.
AI features use a third-party AI provider. When you use an AI feature, the information it needs is sent to a third-party AI model provider to be processed, currently Google, through its Gemini API: the receipt image for receipt scanning, the statement's transaction lines (with account numbers and other personal details removed first) for statement import, the details you type for the AI budget helper, and the text of support requests the AI helps answer. That provider handles the information under its own terms and policies. We may change providers; the Privacy Policy names the current ones. AI features are optional; if you don't want information sent to an AI provider, don't use them.
8. Not professional advice
Givehold is a budgeting tool. It doesn't provide financial, tax, investment, legal or religious advice, and nothing in the Service (including AI suggestions, budget drafts and giving calculations) is a recommendation for your situation. Decisions about your money and your giving are yours; consult a qualified professional or your faith leaders where appropriate.
Givehold doesn't hold, move or transfer money, and it isn't a bank. It doesn't process donations: a giving link you add opens a site run by someone else. Giving records in Givehold are for your own planning and aren't receipts for tax purposes; keep the acknowledgments your church or charity gives you.
9. Availability and changes to the Service
We work to keep Givehold available and your data safe, but the Service may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance, updates or reasons beyond our control. We may add, change or remove features, including what each plan includes. If we ever discontinue the Service, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice when we reasonably can, a chance to export your data, and a refund of any prepaid subscription time after the Service ends.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using Givehold and delete your account at any time. We may suspend, restrict or close an account at our discretion if we believe it violates these terms, belongs to someone who isn't allowed to use Givehold, or puts other users or the Service at risk. We may do so with or without notice, and we aren't required to explain our reasons. Reports from others about an account are reviewed, but a report alone doesn't mean we'll act on it. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as payment obligations, disclaimers, limits of liability and section 15) continue after your account ends.
11. Our rights
The Service, including its software, design and text, belongs to Givehold LLC and is protected by law. "Givehold" and the Givehold logo are our trademarks; please don't use them without our permission. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the Service as offered; they don't give you any other rights in it. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them for any purpose without any obligation to you.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we don't promise the Service will be error-free or uninterrupted. We aren't responsible for services and websites run by others, such as Stripe, your bank or a giving link. Keep your own records of important financial information.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Givehold won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. If you use a free plan, that amount is zero, except where the law requires otherwise. These limits apply whatever the legal theory (contract, negligence or otherwise), even if we were told such damages were possible, and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not fully apply to you; nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.
14. Indemnity
If you use the Service in a way that breaks these terms or the law and that leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you have a dispute with us, please first send us a written description of it (to [email protected] or our mailing address below) and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally; we'll do the same before bringing a claim against you. Any dispute we can't resolve that way will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Salt Lake County, Utah, and you and Givehold LLC agree to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If changes are significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect, and we'll ask you to accept the updated terms the next time you open Givehold. Until you do, you can still view your budget, download your data, cancel your subscription or delete your account, but you can't make changes. Smaller changes (such as clarifications) take effect when posted. The date at the top shows when these terms were last updated.
17. General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a part of these terms right away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer these terms or your account to anyone else without our written permission. We may transfer these terms, and our rights and obligations under them, without your permission, including to an affiliate or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our business or assets. Whoever takes them over steps into our place under these terms and the Privacy Policy, and we'll let you know if Givehold changes hands. These terms don't create a partnership, employment or agency relationship, and no one else has rights under them. You agree that we can send you notices and agreements electronically, such as by email or in the app. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. Section headings are for convenience only, and "including" means "including without limitation".
